A Capitola Wedding Venue: Hope and Ben at Shadowbrook

Some wedding venues are beautiful. Others make you feel something. Shadowbrook is one of those places.

Tucked into the hillside above Soquel Creek, this iconic Northern California wedding venue has been welcoming couples since 1947. Guests arrive by a charming hillside cable car that winds through the trees and down to the creek below. Before the ceremony even begins, it feels like you've stepped into another world.

That's exactly where Hope and Ben chose to begin this next chapter.

A Love Story Years in the Making

Hope and Ben first met when they were fourteen. Life took them in different directions, but fifteen years later they found their way back to one another.

The day started at the nearby Inn at Depot Hill, where they got ready surrounded by their favorite people before sharing a quiet first look on the porch. No audience. No distractions. Just the two of them taking in a moment they had waited a long time to reach.

From there, we made our way to Shadowbrook.

Why Shadowbrook Is One of My Favorite Capitola Wedding Restaurants

As a wedding photographer, light and atmosphere matter. Shadowbrook has both.

The rich wood interiors, dramatic atrium, and creekside setting create photographs that feel warm, cinematic, and deeply romantic without trying too hard. Every corner of the property feels intentional.

One of my favorite details is the ceremony space itself. The aisle turns before opening to the ceremony site, creating a beautiful reveal that photographs so naturally. It feels less like walking into a room and more like stepping into a story.

After the ceremony, guests gathered along Soquel Creek for cocktails while the evening settled in around them. It's one of the things that makes Shadowbrook such a unique wedding venue near Santa Cruz, CA. You're surrounded by nature, but still right in the heart of town.

Planning a Wedding at Shadowbrook?

If you're looking for a Santa Cruz area wedding venue that feels romantic, timeless, and completely unlike anywhere else on the California coast, Shadowbrook is worth a visit.

And if you're planning your own Shadowbrook wedding, I'd love to help tell the story. My approach is documentary-first, focused on genuine moments, meaningful connection, and photographs that still feel like you years from now.
