How to Plan an Adventurous Elopement in Utah

The Ultimate Guide to Elope in Utah

Planning a Utah elopement that feels more like an adventure than a checklist? You’re in the right place. Whether you're drawn to red rock deserts, alpine lakes, or surreal salt flats, Utah offers a dreamscape for couples who want to break away from the traditional wedding mold. As an elopement photographer who’s been there (literally and creatively), I’m here to help you plan the perfect day—your way.

Step One: Create Your Utah Elopement Vision

Before diving into locations and logistics, take a moment with your partner to dream up your ideal day. Would you rather watch the sun rise over red cliffs or kayak on turquoise waters? Get ready together in a cozy cabin, or hike to your ceremony spot? Your answers will guide every next step. And if you’re stuck? Don’t worry—I offer hands-on planning support to help craft a day that feels true to you both.

The Best Places to Elope in Utah for Adventure-Obsessed Couples

Moab Elopement**

Moab is Utah’s ultimate red rock playground. With towering cliffs, natural arches, and desert landscapes straight out of a movie, it’s perfect for sunrise hikes or intimate vows at sunset.

Top Moab Elopement Venues: Whispering Oaks Ranch, The Red Earth Venue, Sorrel River Ranch

Fun ideas: Moab Desert Adventures off-road Jeep tours, rock climbing, canyoneering, stargazing in Dead Horse Point.

Bonneville Salt Flats Elopement

30,000 acres of otherworldly white terrain, and when wet, the mirror effect is surreal.
Good to Know: Requires a $50 BLM permit which you can purchase here.

Pro Tip: Pair this with a stop at the Pink Lake for the ultimate contrast shoot.

Lake Powell Elopement

Slot canyons, houseboats, and beachy vibes in the desert? Yes, please. Lake Powell is ideal for couples who want water and red rock in one place.

Elopement ideas: Rent a houseboat, say “I do” in a slot canyon, then fly over it all in a helicopter tour with Tower Butte.

Pink Lake Elopement

Yep, it's really pink. This vibrant part of the Great Salt Lake is Instagrammable but also deeply unique.

Tip: Combine it with the Salt Flats for a double-dream desert day.

Utah’s National Parks: “Mighty 5” Elopement Locations

You can elope in a National Park! Each one requires a permit, but the views are 100% worth it.

Arches National Park

Over 2,000 sandstone arches + a sunrise ceremony? Yes.

  • Special Use Permit: ~$185

  • 9 ceremony locations available

  • Don’t miss: Delicate Arch, La Sal viewpoint at sunrise

Zion National Park

Awe-inspiring cliffs, epic hikes, and classic Utah scenery.

  • 6 approved ceremony spots

  • $100 permit

  • Ideal for couples who want to hike after the ceremony or elope at a nearby venue and explore the park after.

Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef

All offer incredible views, but each has a unique vibe:

When is the Best Time to Elope in Utah?

Spring and fall are gold. You’ll avoid the summer crowds and still get stunning temps. Summer = hot AF (but manageable at higher elevations or with sunrise ceremonies). Winter is dreamy for snowy red rock but bring layers and boots.
