Victoria & James’ Dreamy Point Lobos Engagement Session

Victoria and James met at the gym and have shared three wonderful years together. To celebrate their engagement, we photographed them in one of their favorite places in the world: Point Lobos State Park.

Their Point Lobos engagement session was filled with golden hour light, intimate moments, and sweeping coastal views, capturing the romance and natural beauty of the Monterey Peninsula.

We began the session around 3:30 PM, just as the afternoon sun filtered through the trees. This timing allowed us to capture a mix of cinematic forest shots, dramatic cliffside photos overlooking the ocean, and eventually, serene beach portraits as the sun dipped toward the horizon. Victoria and James wanted the session to feel intimate and elegant, focusing on the details that showcase their connection and the beauty of Point Lobos.

Planning the Perfect Point Lobos Engagement Session

For couples planning a Point Lobos engagement session, timing and logistics are key. Here are a few tips to make your session seamless and stress-free:

  • Schedule for late afternoon: Shooting around 3–4 PM ensures you capture golden hour lighting while avoiding the heaviest crowds.

  • Parking & permits: Point Lobos fills up quickly, so carpooling or caravanning works best. Don’t forget that a permit is required to enter the park.

  • Crowd management: A skilled photographer can edit out visitors in forest and cliff shots, but the beach at sunset is often empty and all yours.

  • Outfit planning: Bring 1–2 outfit options that complement each other and the natural scenery. For guidance, check out my What to Wear for a Photoshoot.

Capturing Intimate Details & Scenic Moments

Victoria and James really prioritized capturing the little moments—the way they look at each other, their laughter, and the quiet connection they share. These close-up details, paired with the sweeping scenery of Point Lobos, created a gallery that feels both elegant and dreamy.

The cliffs, ocean vistas, and forested paths provided a variety of backdrops, giving the session a dynamic yet cohesive feel. By blending intimate portraits with environmental shots, we were able to showcase both the couple’s love story and the breathtaking location.

Why Point Lobos is a Magical Choice for Engagement Photos

Point Lobos is more than just a stunning backdrop—it’s a place where couples can feel fully present. With its iconic coastal cliffs, hidden beaches, and lush forest paths, it allows for a mix of adventurous and romantic imagery. Whether you’re drawn to dramatic landscapes or intimate forest light, Point Lobos offers endless possibilities for engagement photography.

Victoria and James’ session is a perfect example of how thoughtful planning, location scouting, and a couple’s authentic connection can result in timeless photographs. Their gallery reflects not only their love but also the natural beauty of Point Lobos, creating images they’ll treasure forever.

I’m thrilled to bring myself and my team to capture their wedding next October at the Perry House in Monterey, where their story will continue with more unforgettable moments and cinematic imagery.
